I think with Telford Homes, it's all about balance. What you give to the company is what you get back. And they understand that life does happen as well. I was in my first year of university and I contacted Telford Homes with regard to starting some voluntary work experience in the commercial department which is the surveying department.
And I was lucky enough that a job actually come up for a trainee so I went for interviews and lucky enough I got it and eight years later, I'm still here. It's a really good company. I mean the trainee scheme that they offer is second to none. When you're on site, when you're working in the buying department, in the technical department everyone is there to help you. And it's on the job experience, so you're leaving after five years at university with five years experience at the same time. Your university fees gets funded for as well, which is great. They want to make sure that you get the best experience and you become the asset to Telford Homes that they want you to be and that you want to be. And I'm now, eight years later down the line from trainee to assistant, to surveyor so it definitely works. My next step would be for me to progress to a senior surveyor level and then, who knows from there. You're very respected in Telford Homes. I think, especially as a woman they're actually looking to do an event based on women in construction and kind of open that up to people from the outside because we want to encourage it more because if you're good at it, you're good at it. Our department, everyone really gets on, we've really got some great friends out of Telford some are even invited to my wedding which... that's a big deal…
