Telford Homes’ The Forge Development shortlisted for 2020 Housing Design Awards
The Forge development has been shortlisted in the prestigious ‘Housing Design Awards’ – designed to promote and celebrate exceptional design and layout of homes across the country. The Forge, located in Upton Park, is a development comprising of 192 homes, designed by RMA architects and constructed by Telford Homes. 125 apartments were sold to M&G for Build to Rent in 2015.
The scheme was commended by judges for the creation of a new public street running through the site as well as the development of communal courtyards, offering an opportunity for neighbours to get to know each other and enjoy their new community. It was also praised for its innovative roofing and drainage strategy, including substantial blue and green roofs that restrict and delay runoff from the site, equating to 60% of the equivalent greenfield flow rate. This innovation also saw the scheme named the winner of the Roofing & Drainage category at the AJ Specification Awards earlier this year.
The Housing Design awards have been running for over seventy years, and are the only awards promoted by all five major professional institutions – RICS, RIBA, RPTI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.
John Fitzgerald, Group Managing Director at Telford Homes, comments: “We’re delighted to see The Forge development recognised for such a prestigious award. We’re committed to creating exceptional build-to-rent developments and this award is testament to the innovation, commitment and meticulous attention to detail shown throughout the sites’ creation – resulting in a development that not only delivers substantial social enhancements to the area, but also makes a positive contribution to biodiversity.”
