Two Telford Homes Sites Score 45/45 in the Considerate Construction Scheme

Telford Homes is delighted to announce that two of its sites have been awarded a perfect score of 45/45 in the Considerate Construction Scheme (CCS).

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is an independent, not-for-profit, independent organisation founded to raise standards in the construction industry. Both Telford Homes’ Gallions 2B and Nine Elms sites were awarded perfect scores across each of the CCS’s three assessment criteria;  respect for the community, care for the environment and value for the workforce.

At Gallions 2B, particular praise was given for the site team’s efforts to regularly engage with local residents to keep them updated on construction plans, as well as the use of local labour, providing jobs for the community. Judges also noted the strong promotion of environmental actions around the site, as well as the appointment of a site-specific environmental champion. Particular credit was given to the use of a ‘Smart Waste’ online logging system to monitor timber, fuel and waste coming onto or leaving the project. The site team were also praised for their promotion of healthy lifestyle changes such as quit smoking and diet changes - as well as dedicated to providing training and development opportunities for all staff and subcontractors.

Judges at Nine Elms noted the site team’s regular meetings with local residents to review plans and efforts to minimise impact on neighbours, as well as active efforts to engage with the community – including hosting a talk at a local primary school about the positive benefits of the construction industry and investing in resurfacing the school’s playground. Judges praised the team’s commitment to protecting existing natural habitats, including through placing bug homes and natural wildlife highways around the site and encouraging a natural environment through planned planting with landscape contractors. The team’s commitment to mental health and wellbeing on site was also called out as stand-out, with easily identifiable mental health first aiders always present on site for staff and subcontractors to talk to, and a dedicated relaxation area provided for workers to enjoy on their breaks.

The news comes fresh off the heels of Telford Homes’ Perfume Factory site also being awarded an outstanding score of 44/45 - and is a real testament to the ongoing work being done to drive safe and sustainable practices across the business.
