BALFRON TOWER SHORTLISTED AT THE WORLD ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL AWARDS 2023
We are delighted to share that Balfron Tower has been shortlisted at the World Architecture Festival 2023 in the Completed Buildings – Retrofit category.
The World Architecture Festival is the largest global live awards event for architects and designers and celebrates the best projects across the globe.
The awards had a record number of entries this year with the standard being higher than ever, so being shortlisted is an incredible achievement.
The awards submission highlighted the sympathetic restoration of the building, taking a constructive conservation approach, and respecting the Brutalist aesthetics.
Balfron Tower consists of 146 apartments in three design styles, designed by Studio Egret West and Ab Rogers Design, with six ‘Heritage’ apartments being carefully retained in the original style, preserving the layouts drawn up by Erno Goldfinger, the original architect.
Alongside the 146 apartments, Balfron Tower boasts a fantastic communal amenity, in line with Goldfinger’s vision of ‘community within buildings.’ These spaces include a cinema room, library, communal dining room, gym, yoga room, a workshop/co-working space and table tennis room. The communal areas, lift lobbies and staircases are all inspired by the original design concepts, with different coloured wall tiles on each level and areas of exposed concrete, in keeping with its original brutalist design.
The awards ceremony takes place in Singapore between Wednesday, the 29th of November and Friday, the 1st of December 2023 at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel as part of the World Architecture Festival 2023.
Fingers crossed for a winning result!
